Costa Rica Bans Animal Selfies
Costa Rica has launched a campaign to #StopAnimalSelfies. The campaign dissuades travellers and tourists from endangering native animals and their health for that perfect pic.
According to the BBC, taking close up pictures with wild animals was banned in the Costa Rica over 10 years ago, "but a recent study by the charity, World Animal Protection, suggests large numbers of selfies involving wild animals are still being taken".
World Animal Protection's report found that while the popularity of wild animal selfies is booming across social media, "few people consider the conditions these wild animals are in, or the disruption they can cause to their natural habitat when taking the photo."
So what can you do?
The Campaña Stop Animal Selfies encourages visitors to post photos with stuffed toys alongside a caption of why they don't take pictures with real animals.
Or join 250,000 other wildlife-lovers in signing the pledge to stop animal selfies.
