CONSCIOUS TRAVEL

Everyone thinks of changing the world, but few think of changing themselves.

What is conscious travel?

At its core, conscious travel means being mindful of who we are, where we are going, what we are bringing with us, and what we leave behind. It sounds simple, but when we break those ideas down, conscious travel can completely transform how we see ourselves, our world, and the relationship between the two.

The word conscious has three core meanings (1) awakened (2) knowledgeable (3) intentional. It comes from the Latin conscius, or ’knowing with others or in oneself.’

So we are conscious travellers when we are:

Awakened to the interconnectivity of our attitudes, actions and impacts.

Knowledgeable about best practices and codes of conduct for the places we visit.

Intentional with our choices. Checking in with what we are doing and how we can do better.

The idea of conscious travel comes from responsible tourism renegade, Anne Pollock. Anne is a travel industry thought-leader that reimagines a tourism industry that is better and better for more.

For a truly transformative shift in how we travel, we must look at how we all are a part of global problems and solutions, holistically. Revolutionizing responsible travel is possible when travel's people, places and purposes all act together to advance biodiversity, human dignity and global empathy. That is the sweet spot for conscious social change.
